Graham Cherrington, CAPE TOWN

Helping provide clarity so that you have the confidence to lead.

You know your business better than anyone. Rather than dictating what you should do, my role as a business coach is to help provide clarity so that you have the confidence to lead. I can help you:

  • Develop a robust strategy for long-term growth.
  • Set clear business goals.
  • Hold yourself and your team accountable for executing a clear action plan.

I provide business coaching in and around Cape Town. Get in touch to discover how I can add value to your company.

Does this sound like you?

A business coach may be right for you if you are an entrepreneur or CEO facing one or more of the following challenges:

'I lack guidance'

You’re tired of figuring everything out yourself. Having a partner to help you think and work through specific business challenges will make this journey much easier and more enjoyable. You need a good soundboard.

'I am the business'

Your company can’t run without you. Things fall apart if you had to step away for a holiday or due to illness. You need to find a way to ensure your company continues to grow without you having to be involved in every aspect.

'It's all work and little reward'

You’re drained and putting in as many hours as possible, but it’s not reflecting on the bottom line. It feels as if you’ve “bought a job”. The sad thing is that having a “normal” job would probably be much less stressful (plus, your income would be more stable).

'I worry about the culture'

You feel there’s something off about your company culture. There’s a lack of accountability and very little cohesion. Some team members also just seem to show up to collect that paycheck. The culture stifles your company’s success, but you’re unsure how to shift this around.

How I can help

Coaching is focused on what you want to achieve. As this is different for every business owner, there isn’t a set order for what we’ll cover (this is often the case with other coaching or accelerator programmes).

I’ll use the GROWth Formula to help you determine what you must master to build a successful business. Together, we’ll identify and focus on the areas that will have the most significant positive impact on your business and start there.

Leveraging GROWs structured approach to setting goals and developing a plan of action supported by practical tools to achieve your goals, is what allows me to help you achieve tangible results.

In a nutshell, we’ll cover:

Business GROWth Formula - Setting Direction, You The Leader, Winning Team, Operational Excellence

What the business coaching process looks like

Step 1: Set personal and business goals

The coaching approach starts with defining your personal goals and objectives. From here, we’ll determine your business goals.

Your business is there to serve you, not the other way around, so we start with your personal objectives. There needs to be alignment between both sets of goals.

Once this critical step is complete, we’ll know what you’re trying to achieve. The aim is to help you keep your eye on the prize!

Step 2: Identify business gaps

Next, we’ll explore where your business is today – and where the gaps are. We’ll categorise these gaps into the GROWth Formula buckets, which include:

  • Strategy
  • Operations
  • Execution
  • Leadership
  • Your team

Step 3: Create a robust strategy

Once we know what you ultimately want to achieve – and where the business is right now – we’ll collaboratively create a business strategy to bridge the gap.

But this isn’t where we’ll stop. Strategy is useless without execution, and execution is aimless without strategy.

Step 4: Develop an action plan

The last step is to help you and your team prioritise your objectives and create an action plan to achieve them.

This step involves a full-day workshop that includes you and your leadership team and occurs every three months. It also kicks off the strategic execution cycle and one-on-one coaching sessions.

What my clients say

About Me

As a business coach, I help Cape Town-based entrepreneurs and CEOs achieve business success.

Thanks to diverse, well-rounded experience in various fields – including roles at large corporates and start-ups – I’m well-positioned to help entrepreneurs and CEOs in Cape Town with business coaching.

As a GROW business coach, I aim to unlock the potential of the leaders and teams I coach, helping them build profitable, impactful, and enduring businesses.

I use the methodology encapsulated in the GROWth Formula, which is widely used to build and scale successful companies across South Africa.

Frequently Asked Questions

My typical clients are leaders of established companies in Cape Town, South Africa, generating revenue of between R15m and R500m per year. However, I’ve worked with many startups and large corporates, too.

I work with companies across various industries – from tech, financial services, retail, construction, and professional services firms to engineering companies and architects. I can do this because certain fundamental principles and practices must be in place for any company to grow and scale, regardless of the industry.

  1. One-on-one coaching. This option suits smaller clients where no executive or leadership team exists (i.e. it’s just you, the founder). We’ll meet once every two weeks in person or over Zoom.
  2. Workshops + one-on-one coaching. This package is our most popular and includes a full-day workshop every three months with you and your leadership team PLUS one-on-one coaching.Your company’s strategy will be set, tested, and refined. We’ll also create a plan of action for the execution of your strategy. We’ll review and reset this plan every three months, working towards your annual objectives. (Click here to learn more about this process). In between these workshops, I’ll help you execute the plan by meeting with you (and potentially your leadership team) in one-on-one coaching sessions. In these meet-ups, I’ll act as a sounding board to help you overcome the challenges you face as you execute your plan. I’ll also provide tools and insights to make it easier to implement the required steps.
  3. Workshops only. Some clients are only interested in the strategy and planning workshops (and not the one-on-one coaching in between). If you’d like me to facilitate a once-off workshop with your team to help you develop a strategy and execution plan for the year and then only facilitate workshops every quarter, this option is for you.

All options include access to:

  • An online hub that gives your management team access to the strategy and action plans. This platform makes it easy for all of you to track your progress against the set outcomes.
  • A cloud-based Personal Learning Platform for each team member. Here, they can access a range of learning modules that will teach and equip them with the skills required to build a successful business. Topics include everything from setting strategy to best-practice hiring methodologies.Access to this platform brings learning into the workplace. The bonus is that you can tailor the training to your organisation’s priorities, helping you to reach your goals faster.

Google has much to say about this, but here’s a simple answer:

Both consultants and business coaches focus on helping to solve business problems. The difference is that consultants are specialists who solve specific problems for your business, i.e. they’re hands-on, helping you to do the work.

Conversely, a business coach takes the approach of improving you (and your leadership team) so that you can solve these problems yourself. Coaches typically provide insights, tools, and structure. They also challenge your thinking.

An even shorter answer is that coaching is “done with you”, and consulting is “done for you”.

The GROWth Formula sets out what you need to master to build a truly successful business.

The good news is that you don’t have to get everything done at once. I’ll work with you to help you identify and focus on one or two areas that will have the biggest impact on your business in the shortest time. From here, we’ll move on to other areas.

The GROWth Formula has four components:

  1. Setting direction. Together, we’ll create a clear business strategy to ultimately give your company a sustainable competitive advantage.
  2. You the leader. I’ll help you become the best leader you can be, as your business success is directly linked to your leadership capabilities.
  3. Winning team. I’ll help you set a good team and team-development plan in place. As you can’t scale a company by yourself, you need to surround yourself with the right people who remain by your side.
  4. Operational excellence. To succeed, you must achieve operational excellence in every area – from sales and marketing to financial management, business processes, and strategic planning and execution. We’ll look at whether you’re prioritising and executing the right things.
